Philippa discusses how Metacognition can be useful in supporting Teaching and Learning practice. Philippa emphasises the importance of teaching Metacognitive strategies and how CPD can be designed effectively. She illustrates a case study which helped students to develop their algebraic skills by reflecting on why algebra matters. Philippa explains that turning thinking into structured reasoning is important so that students can recall and use the same thinking patterns at a later date. Philippa also offers insight into a collaborative culture of learning and how this can take place within schools or colleges.

Philippa Cordingley is Chief Executive of CUREE and a renowned expert in CPDL and the use of research for school improvement. She leads two coaching and training projects for Ipswich Opportunity Area, is a member of OECD’s Expert Group for Country reviews of ITE, a trustee of Big Education, the School 21 MAT and CPDL Charity and chairs the COT/ASCL/NAHT Research Advisory Group.
